Disability inclusion is essential to building a truly just and equitable society. For marginalized queer individuals in Ghana who are also persons with disabilities, discrimination often exists at multiple levels. They may face stigma related to sexual orientation or gender identity, alongside barriers linked to physical, sensory, intellectual, or psychosocial disabilities. These intersecting forms of exclusion can limit access to healthcare, education, employment, community spaces, and even basic social support.
Our organization is committed to advancing disability inclusion within queer advocacy and community development efforts. We recognize that equality cannot be achieved without intentionally addressing accessibility and intersectionality. This means promoting inclusive programming, ensuring physical and digital accessibility where possible, using clear and respectful communication, and advocating for services that respond to the specific needs of queer persons with disabilities.
We also work to challenge harmful stereotypes that desexualize or erase persons with disabilities, particularly those who identify as LGBTQ+. Through awareness initiatives, community dialogue, and partnership with disability rights advocates, we promote understanding, visibility, and respect. We believe that every individual, regardless of ability, has the right to autonomy, safety, participation, and self-expression
Beyond awareness, our advocacy extends to engaging institutions and policymakers to promote inclusive policies and remove systemic barriers. Disability inclusion is not an add-on to human rights work; it is central part to it. By centering accessibility, dignity, and representation, we strive to build a movement where no one is left behind and where marginalized queer persons with disabilities can thrive fully and equally within society.
Join our disability inclusion network and help advance the rights and full participation of persons with disabilities in Ghana through accessibility advocacy, inclusive education, community outreach, policy engagement, content creation, mentoring, and more.
