Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
Trauma doesn't wait for convenient timing. Neither do we. This campaign provides affirming counseling, peer support, and crisis care for individuals carrying wounds the world told them to hide.
The Silent Weight
Consider what it takes to wake up every day performing a version of yourself that keeps you safe but slowly hollows you out. To carry grief from family rejection you can never publicly name. To endure violence you cannot report. To love in hiding, mourn in silence, and smile through it all because the alternative is exposure.
This is the daily reality for countless LGBTQ+ individuals in Ghana. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and suicidal ideation are not abstractions here, they are the lived consequences of sustained marginalization. And yet, affirming mental health care barely exists within reach.
Most available services are unaffordable. The few that are accessible are often delivered by providers who pathologize the very identity of the client. Seeking help becomes another source of harm.
"For years I thought something was broken inside me. My first session with an ENG counselor was the first time anyone told me that what I was feeling was a normal response to an abnormal situation. That sentence changed my life."
What We Offer
Our program meets people where they are emotionally and geographically. We have built a care model rooted in affirmation, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity:
- Individual therapy with trained relatable professionals and counselors
- Weekly peer support circles, facilitated safe spaces for shared healing
- Crisis intervention for individuals in acute psychological distress
- Trauma-specific recovery programs for survivors of assault and mob violence
- Virtual counseling for those who cannot safely attend in person
- Referrals to psychiatric care when clinical support is needed
- Community-based mental health awareness sessions to reduce stigma
The Gap Between Need and Capacity
Our counselors are stretched thin. Wait times for new clients have grown to weeks. For someone in crisis, someone who was assaulted last night, someone who just discovered their photos were shared online, someone contemplating the unthinkable, a week is too long.
Expanding our team, launching a virtual platform, and training peer counselors from within the community are not aspirational goals. They are immediate necessities that your support makes possible.
Where Your Donation Goes
What We Are Building
With $15,000, we will hire two additional counselors, eliminate wait times for crisis clients, launch virtual therapy access for three new regions, and train 10 peer counselors from within the community , people who understand the experience because they have lived it. This is care by the community, for the community.
Give Someone Permission to Heal
Healing is not a luxury. It is what allows someone to keep going, to rebuild, to reconnect, to live fully. Your donation opens the door to care that most cannot access or afford. Be the reason someone doesn't carry it alone.
