When the door closes behind someone fleeing violence, we open another. The Safe House Initiative provides emergency shelter, protection, and a pathway to rebuilding for LGBTQ+ individuals and marginalized persons in Ghana who have nowhere else to turn.
The Crisis We Are Responding To
Imagine being thrown out of your home at midnight with nothing. No phone, no money, no one to call. For dozens of marginalized Ghanaians every month, this is not imagination. It is daily REALITY CHECK!.
Family rejection. Landlord evictions. Mob violence. Blackmail. The reasons vary, but the result is the same: vulnerable people, often young, standing in the dark with nowhere safe to go. The streets are not an option, they bring more danger, more exploitation, more trauma.
This is why the Safe House Initiative exists. Not as a concept. Not as a plan. As a real, operating shelter that has already welcomed and protected dozens of lives since its doors opened.

What Happens Inside Our Safe House
The Safe House is more than four walls. It is a system of care built around the understanding that safety is the foundation upon which everything else, being healing, growth, independence becomes possible.
- Immediate, confidential emergency shelter no questions asked in the first 48 hours
- Three meals daily and essential personal items
- On-site psychosocial support from trained, affirming counselors
- Legal guidance for residents facing persecution or unlawful eviction
- Skills development and job placement assistance during the stay
- Structured transition planning so residents leave with a plan, not just hope
- Peer community; residents support each other through shared experience
Residents stay for up to three months. In that time, we work alongside them to secure stable housing, employment or training, and connection to ongoing support networks. The goal is never dependency, it is a bridge from crisis to self-sufficiency.

Where We Are Headed
The Safe House is operational and serving residents right now. But demand consistently outpaces our capacity. Every month, we turn people away, not because we don't care, but because we don't have the resources to house them.
We are raising $25,000 to sustain operations for 12 uninterrupted months, expand bed capacity, and ensure every person who reaches our door can be welcomed, not turned away into the night.
